Welcome to the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs

Our prayer is that you would be blessed and strengthened by the power of Jesus Christ and that you will live a life of abundance in fellowship, joy and liberty. First Christian Church in Baxter Springs is here for you. The church is the greatest thing in the world, and we believe it is the greatest hope, perhaps the only hope, to provide a safe place to connect with God. By the power of the Holy Spirit, miracles in people’s lives start happening when the church is fulfilling it’s mission. May God richly bless you!
We would love to get to know you better. If you haven’t yet filled out your information in our visitor’s book we would be grateful if you did so. It is located at our welcome podium in the entryway.

The Future at First Christian Church  (3/18/2020)

Hello church! I hope and pray everyone is taking the proper precautions as this pandemic escalates. I also pray that we are not shrinking back from our duty as followers of Jesus to love the vulnerable and hurting in our community.

To that effect, we have decided to suspend regular church meetings on Sunday mornings for the foreseeable future. However, this does not mean we are suspending church. The church is the people; it is the kingdom – the mission of God that will continue on.

One way we want to ensure that the church continues to be the church is by continuing to meet together on Sunday mornings. How are we going to do this? Through house churches!

Every single member of our church will be placed in a “house church”. These house churches will meet on Sunday mornings, at 10:30, for fellowship, a relevant sermon from Cody, communion, and prayer. These house churches will be small groups of church members with extended families grouped together (basically people you are already around so there’s minimal risk of transferring any virus).

These groups are not mandatory. You can choose to stay home and tune into the message online. We will encourage discussion online as well so you can still be a part what’s happening from your own home; however, we know how important community is. In these times of isolation, it becomes even more important. We don’t want you to miss the opportunity to continue to have community even if you are practicing social distancing. So, if you wish to join the church in person, you will have a house church you can attend.

Your house church leaders will be contacting you this week about whose group you are in and where you are meeting.

Our hope and prayer is that we can continue to be a relevant force in your life and in the life of our community during this time. The church in the book of Acts met in one another’s houses. In fact, large church buildings as places of meeting were unheard of in the first couple of centuries. We’re going back to the basics! We’re going to worship with our family in our homes. And we’re going to continue to be the church. There are going to be a lot of needs in the next few weeks. We can be there to, in the name of Jesus, love on the hurting.

Stay tuned to our communication channels as we move forward! Thanks church
